Diana Freiwald

Midwife and Executive Director

Diana began learning midwifery at the age of eight, alongside her mother, Hannah. It was never a question: midwifery was, and still is, like a second language to her. By the age of 18, she had already assisted in more than 150 births. She is passionate about complex deliveries, and even more so about women's autonomy.

For years she worked alongside Hannah in her private practice and as a volunteer at AMA. In 2022, she decided to dedicate herself fully to AMA and her two young children.

Her own motherhood taught her, from the inside, what so many women experience. The birth of her first child was long and difficult: 34 hours of labor and a transfer from home to the birthing center to receive an epidural, followed by a physically and emotionally demanding postpartum period. Her second child arrived at home, unplanned, at 36 weeks and in the midst of the pandemic, delivered by his father.

In 2023, Hannah's diagnosis brought everything to a halt. Diana stopped attending births to be with her mother and reorganize the family's life. Six months later, with Hannah already settled in Germany, she returned to AMA and dedicated herself wholeheartedly to it, with a deep faith in the team and its purpose.

Today she no longer serves clients: she leads the organization and its strategic direction, accompanied by committed people who sustain the project alongside her. She discovered a passion for non-profit work and wants to continue supporting AMA for many more years, while also cherishing time with her family, a luxury that passes quickly.
