Elisa Bocel
Independent Midwife and Nursing Assistant
Elisa arrived at AMA after completing her basic education, when she was expected to start contributing to her family's finances. She began by helping with household expenses. As Mary's niece, AMA welcomed her with support and a clear agreement: that she continue her studies.
She initially trained as a cook, but upon graduating, she knew her true calling was to be a midwife. AMA supported her on this journey: she trained as a midwifery apprentice and completed a nursing assistant program. After several years working as a secondary midwife, she resumed her studies and graduated with honors from high school in October 2026. She is the first woman in her family to pursue higher education and hopes to attend university with AMA's academic support.
Today, Elisa is a primary midwife and can provide care independently. In 2026, the health center in her municipality, San Pedro Yepocapa, finally granted her her traditional midwife license.
She has been with AMA for over six years. She is known for her calm demeanor in difficult situations and her admirable commitment to women's autonomy.
