Miriam Santos
Midwifery Apprentice
Miriam is from Ciudad Vieja, Sacatepéquez. She came to AMA after working with Diana's family at their home. At the time, she was studying to be a teacher, but upon joining AMA and closely supporting mothers and babies, she discovered a new calling. She decided to change course and began a degree in Nursing.
She has been with AMA for about five years. Today, she is the organization's midwifery apprentice and is undergoing continuous training, learning simultaneously at the university and in the clinic alongside midwives with years of experience. In 2026, she obtained her traditional midwife license, although to get it she had to travel, along with Mary and Elisa, to another municipality two or three hours away.
Her time in teaching left her with a special talent: she has a great ability to teach and to help women understand their own health, something essential in a model that puts the autonomy of each woman at the center.
